Federal Government Launches 23 New Affordable Housing Projects, Offering 7,000 Homes for B40 Families

LABUAN: The Federal Government is set to initiate at least 23 new affordable housing projects under the People's Housing Programme (PPR) as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing (KPKT), Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, announced that these projects will provide over 7,000 affordable housing units aimed at supporting the low-income B40 group.

“Once completed, these new homes will feature enhanced facilities and contribute to the ministry’s larger goal of delivering 500,000 affordable housing units under the 12MP,” she stated during the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT Labuan event, where keys were handed over to recipients of the Residensi Rakyat (PRR) Batu Arang program.

Aiman Athirah highlighted that the affordable housing initiatives, targeting both the B40 and M40 groups, are being carried out by key agencies including KPKT, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), and Perumahan PR1MA.

To date, 166 projects comprising 104,081 units have been completed nationwide, with an additional 16 projects totaling 5,823 units currently under construction. The government’s implementation of 204 PRR projects, both completed and in the planning stages, has already benefited 117,171 B40 families.

“These projects reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable and sustainable housing for low-income communities,” she added. In urban areas like the Klang Valley, where housing affordability remains a major challenge, KPKT is collaborating with the Department of Federal Territories (JWP) to ensure affordable housing access for the B40 group.

She also underscored the important role of state governments in providing land for the PPR projects. With home prices set between RM45,000 and RM60,000, future projects will include upgraded facilities to improve the residents' quality of life.

“This commitment ensures that affordable housing meets the needs and expectations of the B40 group,” she emphasized, noting that the government's sustained investment in affordable housing is a significant move toward addressing the housing crisis for lower-income Malaysians and ensuring fair access to decent living conditions for all.
